A dramatic improvement, artwise, over the comico/fishwrap comics of the eighties/ninties! Use of subtle colours, rather than the garish, blinding comickybook typs makes a much bolder statement. Free, sketchy lines are far more appealing! Simple backgrounds don't detract from "action". Kudos! *applauds*
This is great! I love Sam & Max!! Any chance the Fox series will ever come out in a DVD set? Is there an address we fans can write to regarding a DVD existence for Sam & Max?

Sam and Max be back! Is there more than one frame in chapter one??? I'm clicking around and nothing!
i like the old style background busy with hilarious non-sequiturs, but I'll wait and see on these, how the new style works out.

It is so great to have a new Sam and Max comic! Thank you so much, Steve Purcell and Telltale Games!

Oh my dear sweet bippy.
I think I might just die of happiness, ressurect, die of happiness again, and then settle down for a while until I fall over from excitement.
Words fail to adequately express how pleased I am to see new Sam and Max from the mind of Mr. Purcell. I would make up my own word to express my joy, but I can't come up with one snappy enough.
Dance, dance, dance, dance...Dance, dance, dance, and dance. And then some dancing. Comics are lucky to have Mr. Purcell on their side once again. Go team visual juxtaposition!
I don't want to be the only person who didn't comment on this momentous occasion. I guess I should finally open up that TPB of The Collected Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway that I bought so long ago and still haven't read yet. Wouldn't wanna spoil anything by reading new comics without knowing about the originals. =-D Hehehehe...
Ehm, judjing by these comments, I think there must be already more than one pages??? Because I could nowhere find something as a "next" button.

Not to be pedantic, but one frame? The lack of an RSS feed or a mail-list specifically for this strip is also a problem: if this is to promote the upcoming game and extend the fan base, these pages need to come out often, else it won't grab the generally fussy webcomic reader. Granted, Sam & Max is very popular (I own all the comics, after a lot of searching), but the site version will have to keep momentum to maintain an appeal with the web audiences.
Yes, it's awesome that more S&M strips are appearing, but this will really just be an idea in the midsts of execution for now. I can't refer protential readers to a single page - they won't get it and they won't come back.
This is just one page, right? It does sound like there's more than one from the comments...
Wish we had more than just one page with a hand, but at least it's a start to more S&M, right?
Comment by Spence
December 13, 2005, 6:22 am
I'm sorry... but ... is there anything more than this hand comming out of the earth ... ? ... Just wonder if there are only these four images in the "first chapter" or if i'm blind :-)
Comment by divi
December 13, 2005, 6:37 am
haha, goes to show how popular S&M still are, when people are celebrating "the new style" of drawing, even claiming that this quick sketch is an improvement over the originals, which is some of the best comic art out of America.
Oh, I'm a rabid fan too, so I'm excited about any new material, really. Just don't hope we'll be seeing quickly made sellout strips, that's like the opposite of what Sam n Max are about

I'm not really a fan of the 'roll over' animation thingy they did. It doesn't really add anything, and it blots out every frame with the Windows image options every time I scroll over. A static comic would be better, and presumably less work.

This is a damn well-placed foot forward, although I think that there may be something that Mr. Purcell might be missing:
A) Where is the DVD of the series?
B) I really like the fact that, although to many this is a detriment, I like the "scroll over panel" effect. Primarily since I read so fast and catch things, comic strip punchlines rarely make me laugh. To me as a reader; this is a definite boon.

I, too, may weep openly. To give you an idea, I acquired two stray cats a few months ago and, after weeks of hard thought, had a brilliant flash of insight to name them Sam and Max. Max is pretty darn hyperkinetic, too.
Sam & Max were formative, taught me to love language, cynicism and wry absurdity at a very young age.
Thank you so much for all you've done, and thanks for bringing us more.

You better believe it li'l buddy....... Oh man, it's been a long wait. I openly weeped when freelance police got cancelled at 95% complete. 95! Why for the love of God would the publisher of the best adventure games drop such a game when it was so close to completion? It doesn't make sense. I look forward to the new games, but would have loved to have seen Freelance Police. What happened to the code for that anyway? Is it tied up in a giant ball of legal rights twine?

I grew up playing Sam and Max Hit the Road. Those two demented bastards have thus been ingrained into my mind ever since childhood.
The fact that they're finally coming back (from the dead, as it may be) . . . it's happiness that cannot be expressed in words. Perhapds only in a primal scream. BRRREEEAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

It's been quite the year, eh? A new Sam n Max game, now new comics; I'd start schrieking like a cheerleader if that weren't so damned unmanly. I'd complain that it's only one page, but that would be just plain churlish. Alls I'm saying is, maybe slightly more substantial update might make a good xmas present to one and all. Regardless, much love to the new comic, looks beautiful, maybe put a bit of a delay on the pop-ups, just to make it flow better.

The roll-over idea is a rather neat concept, it makes the reader really look at the art. My only worry is that you may lose some archive readers later on who are trying to read through the archives as fast as possible to continue with whatever the current story may be.
Regardless, I look forward to the upcoming comic, it looks great and I can hardly contain my excitement or something.

I have to say, it's a reasonable start, but geez, are you going to update? You should, at the very least, post an update schedule to let people know if this is a once a month thing (which is a bit ridiculous considering if you go into a store you can an entire comic book once a month) or a weekly thing or what!
