This time it's true: Sam & Max are Wii-bound
Posted by emily April 3, 2008

Yep. No joke. GameSpot just broke the good news.

I know what you're thinking: "I've heard this rumor so many times. Why should I believe it now?" I'll tell you why. Because this time it's not a rumor.

Watch for the official who/what/when/where/why tomorrow... or just take my word for it. Sam & Max is coming to Wii.

Woo!

UPDATE: More details in the official press release.

April Fools was yesterday. Don't break my heart. =P
Comment by tobar April 3, 2008, 5:00 pm
Wait....it was two days ago!?!?!?! Remind me never to do THAT again. *remains cryptic* ¬_¬
Comment by tobar April 3, 2008, 5:02 pm
Yeah, I think I liked Telltale better back when nobody at the company could find their digital camera.
Comment by Chuck April 3, 2008, 5:27 pm
Wait. If sam and max season 1 comes to wii as widescreen, do we get the widescreen update for PC as well?
Comment by Maratanos April 3, 2008, 5:28 pm
Now the answer is, no matter whose camera, it's always on Jake's desk!
Comment by tabacco April 3, 2008, 5:29 pm

I LOVE YOU TELLTALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment by some nerdy guy April 3, 2008, 6:11 pm
Bring Season 2 to the Wii, my computer is just too corroded to support games anymore.
Comment by krwp April 3, 2008, 6:14 pm
I'm going to commit heresy for a moment and say that I'm not going to buy it.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the idea of Sam & Max on the Wii. If you were to, say, release individual episodes on the Wii along with the PC games and you could have one or the other, I'd go for the Wii, but unfortunately I am not a money well and can't really justify rebuying a game just to have it on a different platform.
Sorry.
Comment by TrogLlama April 3, 2008, 6:19 pm
We're not expecting people who have already played the games on PC to run out and buy the Wii version. There are a whole lot of people out there who would prefer to play on the Wii, or who don't even *have* a PC so the Wii is their only option. That's who this release is for.
Comment by Emily April 3, 2008, 7:15 pm
I am, however, a money well AND a consumer whore. As such, I will be buying it again for the Wii :P
Comment by Tribaldemon April 3, 2008, 7:16 pm
I know people who have been waiting for this to come out on Wii to finally play the games. Great to hear the news!
Comment by xChri5x April 3, 2008, 7:26 pm
What exactly is wrong with that picture? ;)
Comment by Mel April 3, 2008, 7:50 pm
wait.. is that a ps3 controller i see on the desk? does that mean telltale have a ps3 devkit? or is it just for fun :P
Comment by V_Ben April 3, 2008, 7:54 pm
I WILL BUY IT

I WILL BUY IT NINE TIMES

At the very least I will pester all of my friends with Wiis to buy it!
Comment by wefeelgroove April 3, 2008, 7:56 pm

Nope, it's for a perfectly normal PS3 that we bought to play games with.

What games? *rimshot*

Okay, okay, that was a low blow, I take it back. The PS3 is an impressive piece of hardware, and has some great stuff coming in the near future. I love my 360 though.

*heart stops beating*
Comment by delimew April 3, 2008, 8:23 pm
This is great news! I never played a Sam and Max game and I was just looking into getting the Season 1 for PC. However, I'll probably wait it out to get this on the Wii instead. Can't wait to play!
Comment by Robert April 3, 2008, 9:16 pm
Aw. I just bought Season 1 on PC last week. Maybe I can convince my Wii owning friends to finally go for it with this news...

Definitely looking forward to Season 2 though. The Wii was MADE for adventure games!
Comment by Whirlo April 3, 2008, 9:44 pm
Hey, at least it means telltale is taking an interest in the ps3 :P
Comment by V_Ben April 3, 2008, 9:45 pm
We spent so much time working ... on cleaning that room. We hid the office PS3 so people wouldn't think we were working on the PS3. Fail. :(
Comment by Seg April 3, 2008, 9:55 pm
*sees an Xbox and a PS2 in the picture*

Telltale is working on games for PS2 and XBox! You heard it here 1st! :D

Seriously, about time Sam and Max hit the Wii! Will be buying it even tho I have the PC versions. :D
Comment by Dedlok April 3, 2008, 10:11 pm
This is really great because now I can play it with my friends without everyone hovering over the pc. Why must you make me so happy!
Comment by some nerdy guy April 3, 2008, 10:11 pm
I'd buy it for the Wii so that my wife will play with me. If it's on the Wii, she'll try it. Good move, Telltale!
Comment by JHero April 3, 2008, 10:15 pm
Monkeys! Sam&Max for WII!?
This makes me want to jump on wiiFit and be very excited.
Comment by Margot April 3, 2008, 11:26 pm
best reason to get that console now !
Comment by mothra April 3, 2008, 11:33 pm
It would be nice if the pc version just would ship with support of the Wii controller.
Comment by taumel April 4, 2008, 12:35 am
let the madness begin!!
Comment by Hero1 April 4, 2008, 1:28 am
Hooray! I guess. :P I suppose non-PC gamers can now enjoy them. :D
Comment by Guybrush Threepwood April 4, 2008, 2:20 am
Tabacco: "Now the answer is, no matter whose camera, it's always on Jake's desk!"

Now I can't get the picture of Jake, being some kind of kleptomaniac fixated with cameras, out of my head. Nice job =D
Comment by Fajerkaos April 4, 2008, 2:29 am
I hope you guys will squeeze all languages on one disc. I just read that some of the European countries will get dubbed versions in German and French. I'm German myself and I HATE that. I wan't to chose and with a game like Sam&Max there is nothing like experiencing the jokes first hand and in the original tongue. Translation always takes something away from a game and in the rarest of cases actually improves something. I can't see how some underpaid chump could improve my gaming experience just because everything is in my mothers tongue. I am a near native speaker and I really dislike going through the hoops of cross imports and stuff just to play a game the way it was intended to play.

PLEASE give us a multilanguage version ... buying stuff from the UK is too freaking expensive.
Comment by Markus April 4, 2008, 2:37 am
Now this is very good news indeed. Thank you for making the Only Right Decision (tm)!
Comment by Antti April 4, 2008, 2:55 am
"There are a whole lot of people out there who would prefer to play on the Wii, or who don't even *have* a PC so the Wii is their only option."

Oh right, I've heard of those. They live in caves and kill their own food :D

Also, wake me up when you release it for the Nintendo DS. I bet it would be awesome to play Sam & Max with that little stick. Remember, they released Resident Evil for DS :)
Comment by marsan April 4, 2008, 3:15 am
Not to sound cynical or to put down this announcement, apart from pointing the wii-mote at the screen and moving Sam around, is there going to be any other wii-specific features? Will the motion sensor abilities be used, or will it just be a case of point and click but on a games console?

Either way, congrats. One step closer to world domination! :)
Comment by SuperSam April 4, 2008, 3:43 am
Wait, really? As much as I'm excited about Sam and Max going "mainstream" I'm not sure I want to play it with that retarded, jumpy cursor. Half the time it'll just go "WHEEEEEEEEEEE" for no reason. Seriously.
Comment by Yit April 4, 2008, 4:21 am
I can't believe how cynical some of you are...
Comment by Dan April 4, 2008, 4:52 am
Awesome news! I can't wait for this and the under-wraps WiiWare title!
Comment by Nathan April 4, 2008, 7:05 am
YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE A LOT OF MONEY FROM THIS
Comment by heavybassX April 4, 2008, 7:21 am
Awesome! Too bad I already played season 1 on the PC (if Gamespot's right about that). But if new episodes will also appear on the Wii trough WiiWare that will be the way I will play them.
Comment by KnightRoderick April 4, 2008, 7:58 am
Nice TV... Don't smash the panel with the Wiimote!
Comment by Erwin April 4, 2008, 9:45 am
Re: Languages:

There's a bit of confusion about languages that needs to be cleared up. The North American version of the game (US, Canada, Mexico, etc) will contain Voice/Text for French and Spanish text (with English voice). You will need to set your Wii's system settings to the right language, but you will have the choice of English/French/Spanish on the North American version.

Since Nintendo doesn't offer other languages settings other than the three for the North American Wii's, we don't have the ability to provide the other languages for North America.

Aren't you making a clbuttic mistake here?

It's the word "extras" that get me happy. Can you leak anything for little old me?
Comment by some nerdy guy April 4, 2008, 12:16 pm
Any hope yet for a C64 release?
Comment by Derwin April 4, 2008, 1:02 pm
Today sirs and madams (if there still are some left out there) we witness something great. With the Wii as the leading (most popular in term of hype) console, TellTale is doing a smart move. Thanks to our assistance they see the truth and the spirit of adventure games will spread once more.
This also means if we nag, we will get it.

Our next objective is ofcourse making a Monkey Island game that does not suck and is made right! Onwards to Lucasarts!

Telltale Games and Steve Purcell,

Thank you so much for your fan support! I bought the PC version of Season 1, even though my laptop can't really handle it. I am so thankful for this! Please keep up the great work. I will gladly pre-order this title!!!!

Comment by Lucas Pepke April 4, 2008, 1:32 pm

Any plans for season 2 at all?
And, say. The Wii has 512mb of memory. How is that gonna work?
Comment by Ruslan Abylkassov April 4, 2008, 5:55 pm
you guys are geniuses, i will pick up my copy soon. THANKS for bringing this to the wii, Sam and Max are meant for the wii.
Comment by Anthony LeBlanc April 4, 2008, 8:23 pm
I won't believe this until I get a free copy of it on my Wii.
Comment by MeaningOfLife April 4, 2008, 8:39 pm
This will be great, now I can finally buy it. I have been playing it on gametap with mycokereward points. Now I can stop drinking coke!
Comment by some nerdy guy April 4, 2008, 9:21 pm
Ah, yet again a callous gaming company has ignored the repeated pleas of its own loyal customers, knowing full well that they, and not the gaming public, always know be...

Wait, huh? Oh, sweet crumb-cake, is this true?! Lets go send dump-trucks of money to Telltale's offices so perhaps one day the gaming public, no longer callously divided by platform or fanboydom, can go skipping through the meadows of a new sweet gaming utopia, Nintendo and PC fans alike exchanging knowing smiles as to what their "One Rabbit, One Law" buttons truly mean.

Joyous day.
Comment by Dan Hetteix April 5, 2008, 9:02 am
Just wanted to let you know that your announcement put me over the edge of getting a Wii. Now I just have to dump my 360 and actually find a Wii somewhere for MSRP...
Comment by Rob April 6, 2008, 7:57 am
Aw, I was hoping it would be WiiWare...
But this is good!
Comment by Sonic9jct April 6, 2008, 9:29 am

Comment by rick April 6, 2008, 5:54 pm
One thing confuses me though, in what media will the game be stored?

Download? DVD? Floppy disks?

I'm rooting for a DVD set myself. Mostly so i can get a wii game box with some AWESOME artwork on it.
Comment by Coolkalle April 7, 2008, 6:18 am
So this will be coming out in the fall, right?

What If That A Computar And He Holding The Wii Remote
Comment by Dustin April 8, 2008, 7:58 pm
Yep thats a computer and a TV, going through a vga cable, and someone holding a wii remote how deceptive.
Comment by jared25 April 8, 2008, 11:20 pm
Guess again.
Comment by tabacco April 9, 2008, 9:00 am
ok ill guess again its a computer hooked through a dvi to the tv. and the audio card from the pc is sending stereo anologue signals to the tv speakers. besides the interface having a mouse pointer on the screen has been outdated on game consoles. try to enjoy the contol sceme of monkey island on the play station two. how poor of you do do a direct port.
Comment by jared25 April 9, 2008, 9:33 am
Whatever makes you happy, dude.
Comment by tabacco April 9, 2008, 9:36 am
its ok i work in retail i have influence on all the employee gamers in the store also nearly half of the customers that check out. way to go on making the wii remote into a mouse.
Comment by jared25 April 9, 2008, 10:00 am
Careful guys, jared25 works in retail! This means that all of the customers that go through his store with no mind of their own who actually bother to listen to his advice might possibly consider thinking about not buying the Wii version because in this one screenshot it totally looked like it was running on a PC! Oh noes!

That said, I can't wait to play it once it comes out.
Comment by ConfusingAlibi April 9, 2008, 4:46 pm
I know have reason to buy a wii
Comment by john April 9, 2008, 6:29 pm
YEAH!!!! Finally! I've losted hope.

Now I will be able to play the greatest adventure games on my TV Sam&Max and Runaway.

By the way, did you know that RockBand was announced on April 1st? So the April Fool was to think tha tit was an April Fool... that was a genius stroke.

But I know this is a PS3 dev kit controller... why? Because there's no good game for PS3 so you decide to help them! Oh Telltale, you're the best!

I bought episode 1 on the PC but when I heared the rumors for a Wii version, I decided to wait. Maybe the best thing I have done in 2007
