Good work indeed!

I don't get this one. Who is Nigel the Hook, and why is Sam dreaming all of a sudden. How could some circus chimps save someone's life? Don't get me wrong, I love Sam and Max, but I guess I'm just having some problems picking up on this panel. The previous ones were hilarious though.
Comment by King Joe February 15, 2006, 6:45 pm
now that's funny
Comment by pheeph February 15, 2006, 8:36 pm
man i LOVE these. keep up the good work, hopefully some news on the game soon?
Comment by Mike February 15, 2006, 9:16 pm
I have to admit, I'm a little confused, too. I'm going to read a thousand more times until I "get" it just a bit more.
Comment by artwking4 February 15, 2006, 9:55 pm
If you go back and read the last one straight through this one does that help?
Comment by Reptilicus February 15, 2006, 10:19 pm
You obviously haven't read many Sam and Max comcis before. Sam has fallen asleep and driven before. And they tend to say random stuff constantly. It's part of their charm. They're a little like (And I'm embarassed to compare them to it) The Gilmore Girls. They talk and talk and you sit and listen, or in this case read and enjoy. Lovin' how awesom Sam and Max are after all these years. It seems similar to Monkeys Violating the Sacred Temple. The setting seems to be based on what Steve likes to imagine Britain is like instead of what it is like. Mr Bean style Mini for instance. Crazy awesome.
Comment by Pvt._Public February 15, 2006, 11:08 pm
Woo Gilmore Girls!

"My skull took most of the impact." Oh, it's good to have the boys back... This coming from someone who preordered that god awful "Armed and Dangerous" simply for the Windows XP ready CD version of Sam and Max!
Comment by Jurinet February 16, 2006, 12:21 am
Armed and Dangerous was fabulous. Planet Moon rock.

Anyway, the chick on the tiger, I think I've seen her before.

Comment by hierohero February 16, 2006, 2:19 am
You can be my new personal Jesus if you like.

Seriously, these are awesome. Not very frequent, but that just means it's like a mini-Christmas everytime I click through and see a new strip.
Comment by Matt February 16, 2006, 2:30 am
actually considerin they are in color I'm surprised how quick we get them.. I remember waiting a year plus for the new adventurer magazine to come out just so i could see a new sam and max comic :)
Comment by hierohero February 16, 2006, 2:59 am
I don't see why some people didn't get the jokes. I got them all except the nigel hook. I loved it. Hey do you think they'll release this online comic as a graphic novel after it's finished?

I love all the jokes about britain. And i agree it has a very dull scenery. Believe me i live there.
Comment by Sam February 16, 2006, 4:52 am
Wow. I LOVE the pop-up format for the scripting. The new art style is SHARP. I know this has been said a thousand times on here but here's one more "Thank you for bringing Sam and Max back!"

BTW, the Bang and Mash joke was GREAT!

Well, I knew Sam had fallen asleep. I guess I was trying to think of the specific dream as being significant or something and trying to figure out what it was. Still don't know what Nigel the Hook is, though.
Comment by artwking4 February 16, 2006, 8:24 am
uhm, if you read the previous panel again, "nigel the hook" will make sense.
Comment by apignarb February 16, 2006, 9:18 am
I love the way that Sam and Max talk, its very funny. It`s like the "Cocky and Funny" technique.
Sam and Max new way to seduce women!
Comment by Gabriel February 16, 2006, 10:13 am
You rock steve.

Your comics are the best. And the drawing if anything has gotten better. Superb coloring!
Comment by ben February 16, 2006, 12:05 pm
Yes, for those still confused -- 'Nigel The Hook' was mentioned by Max in the previous strip: Sam is coming into consciousness here. Still doesn't clear up exactly who that is, however. Leave it to Purcell to pull out wildly obtuse pop culture!
Comment by jesstech February 16, 2006, 12:56 pm
Ah... the previous comic. I dismissed the names listed there as wild foreign references that I'd never understand. And still don't. But Nigel the Hook is still a funny name. I hope we find out more.
Comment by artwking4 February 17, 2006, 12:06 pm
Steve! You should fix up spudvision.com!
If you did I would exchange money for goods in your online store!
Comment by Ben Hubbard February 22, 2006, 6:00 am
Because there were several people requesting it earlier, I took it upon myself to make some "flat" Sam & Max strips.

This comic gets funnier every page. I reallly hope we get some news on the official game release date. And as for you Purcell, seriously, get Bill farmer as Sam and Nathen Lane as Max. their voices will fit the characters perfectly. And can you re-release the Sam & max surfin the Highway collection again? I'm trying to get it but the used copies cost over $150.
Comment by Jad February 28, 2006, 9:25 am
Theres another official game coming out? excellent. What's up with the minimal updates to the comic strip? I want more sam and max!
Comment by mhedges March 8, 2006, 3:30 pm
Whoa, Nathan Lane as Max? I dunno about that... I much preferred the voice used in Hit The Road. That voiced fit the character perfectly.
Comment by Ayato March 10, 2006, 8:33 am
You mean Nick Jameson? He was good, but I think Nathan Lane's voice suits Max's personality. Bill farmer did a better job as Sam then the guy on the cartoon
Comment by Jad March 10, 2006, 12:15 pm
If your done with the next page Steve then post it already. Sorry if I sound impatient, I just can't get enough of Sam & Max. Speaking of which, any idea when the game will come out?
Comment by Jad March 11, 2006, 8:01 am
NEVER
Comment by Ferret March 13, 2006, 2:59 pm
I dunno why, but I second the Nathan Lane idea! =D
Comment by Jesstech March 14, 2006, 10:54 am
Never?! Of course it's coming out it's still in production, and Max would sound funny in a good way with Nathen Lane's voice. What's everyone else's opinion?
Comment by Jad March 14, 2006, 12:15 pm
Man, Nathan Lane? Are you serious? What made Max so great as a character was his witty sarcasm... I just can't see Nathan Lane pulling that off...
Comment by Raige March 14, 2006, 4:13 pm
Nathan Lane played Timon in The Lion King, and Timon was a wise cracking side-kick. He also played Max Bealystock in Mel Brooks's The Producers, and Max Bialystock was a smart alleck slimeball. Nathan Lane is perfect for for Max. Just give it a chance.
Comment by Jad March 14, 2006, 5:15 pm
See I think thats where in lies my problem... When I think Nathan Lane, I think Walt Disney... When I think Max, I think Ralph Bakshi... ah well... just my humble opinion
Comment by Raige March 14, 2006, 6:37 pm
Please post more! It's been over a month, and we need our Sam & Max fix. I got the itches!
Comment by Salookanana March 16, 2006, 11:09 pm
"What made Max so great as a character was his witty sarcasm"

What? I always thought what made Max so great was his casual and wildly excessive violence.
Comment by Justin March 17, 2006, 9:06 pm
I always thought Max was just all-round great.
Comment by Ferret March 20, 2006, 6:31 am
I'll be honest, I came to Oxford purely based upon the bangers and mash truck. in hopes it would be here.

alas, yet to find one, but there are many trucks that sell food on the side-- like kebabs, or jacket potatos.

my search continues.
Comment by Jonathan March 21, 2006, 2:17 pm
Oh man, no new S&M cartoons and the news of progress about the game is scarce to say the least. Bring on the game already! It gives me such creeps thinking if it won't be published after all. As if it would be too good to be true.

Lit means intoxicated, usually from alcohol.

Just like to say that I absolutely love the Frank Frazetta inspired setting and character design in the first two panels. Just awesome.
